Wedding hairstyles concepts

Summer is wedding season. Who doesn't want to look like a celebrity on her wedding day? The basic wedding hair concepts (for those who don't have short hair) tend to be either (1) classically formal, (2) classically romantic, or (3) casual but romantic.

I put Jessica Simpson's look above into the first category, Uma Thurman's look into the second, and Emmy Rossum's look into the third. Simpson's look takes the most work and requires the most product. Personally I love more casual looks like Uma's and Emmy's. BeautyRiot has a great new piece this week from star stylist Giovanni Giuntoli (say that 3 times fast!) on how to recreate the wavy updo look seen so much at this year's Oscars.
The wavy updo look isn't just for brides -- it's for bridesmaids and guests, too!

Tie-dyed hair

Here's Jessica Simpson at this year's MTV Movie Awards. Notice the gradual change in color towards the ends of her hair. I'm not into matching your hair color to your dress (which I think might have been the idea here), but using a temporary color to sort of tie-dye the ends of your hair is kinda cool--something fun for a night out. If you can still find Color Pulse mousse, you could use that. Or go to a beauty supply store and browse the temporary color section. Roux makes liquid temporary colors that might do the trick.

For you fashionistas out there, I thought I'd just drop a note... We just added free fashion show videos at BeautyRiot. This is the real thing, front row at New York's Spring Fashion Week, as well as priceless vintage fashion show footage. More will be added every month. Right now we've got Michael Kors and Bill Blass from Spring 2006, and a Bob Mackie show from the '80's (much ado about sweaters!). Enjoy :)

Uma Thurman: America's Prom Queen?

Every year during April and May, BeautyRiot gets a surge in traffic as young women search for prom hairstyles. The Oscar's always provide lots of inspiration, and this year was no different. The top three most popular updo's were all sported by actresses at this year's Academy Awards.

Uma Thurman's hairstyle was far and away the most popular. While Jessica Alba and Reese Witherspoon (natch!) came in at second and third for updo's. The preference was clearly for loose, wavy, unfussy, romantic styles. I approve!

Another interesting trend was the rejection of updo's altogether. Long, wavy tresses worn by Jennifer Aniston, Ashley Olsen, Hilary Duff and Mischa Barton drew top views by BeautyRiot.com's April and May visitors.

It seems to me that America's young women are actually developing seriously good taste!

Are they reading Celeb Looks?

You might recall that I recently suggested that Lindsay should go back to red, Paris chop it off and that everybody swear off extensions for a long, long time. Well, ask and ye shall receive. I'm in celeb heaven because my girls just look so good!

Here's what should happen next in my ideal world: Lindsay and Hilary need to clean it up all little and go for something a little more chic like Nicole or Jessica A.

And, her new gallery on BeautyRiot.com has already put her in the site's top ten most popular. Eva's hairstyle is extremely versatile and works for may different faceshapes and hair types. Lindsay Lohan New BeautyRiot Beauty Icon

The results are in, and Lindsay Lohan has knocked JLo from the the throne. Making her debut at #3, Lindsay Lohan was the third most popular celebrity on BeautyRiot.com in May.

I'm not a bit surprised to see Lohan join the list. That girl is hot right now!

I've dubbed this month's Icon list the "Battle of the Bottle Blondes" because all three, #1 Jessica Simpson, #2 Jessica Alba, and #3 Lindsay Lohan hit the bottle regularly (the bleach bottle, that is).

Interesting: Simpson's new shoulder-length cut continued to be THE most popular style with BeautyRiot's visitors, but Alba's and Lohan's new looks are not what got attention. Photos featuring those beauties' darker tresses were more popular than images of their newer, lighter locks.

I've seen other polls in celebrity print magazines that show people like Lohan and Alba better with darker hair. I certainly agree. Obviously they're both stunning as blondes, but they are both much more unique and intriguing with darker hair.

What's your opinion? I'd love to hear it.
